Who are we?
Born of Franco-English parents, my sister and I spent part of our childhood in Hong Kong before returning to Europe to study and work. For 15 years, Alexandra was employed by one of the greatest Champagne houses in Rheims; she now works for a major wine guide. Gifted with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the French vineyard and a very fine palate, she helps me pick wines and regularly hosts our tastings. As for me, I worked in logistics and French luxury before travelling and writing for a living, until a chance assignment brought me back to the island of my youth and I suddenly realised, with absolute clarity, that I ought to have returned long ago! Hence the idea of starting a business here, drawing on our family know-how, our French roots, our love of wine and of Hong Kong.
Our mission!
Travelling around the world for the last 10 years, I came to realise that French was becoming a byword for expensive. Nowadays, even baguette is sold as luxury bread - judging from its price – a thought that would be totally alien to my compatriots, for whom it is as commonplace as rice or pasta. But France isn’t only about luxury, and French wine isn’t only about Bordeaux’s grands crus classés. There are many family vineyards in France making excellent wine, on a confidential scale, and selling it locally at a reasonable price. Perfected over generations, some of those wines can even be deemed exquisite. It is our mission to bring them to you, without charging you extra for the privilege. “But that – I can hear the little voice of marketing whisper in my ear – is what luxury is all about!”
